Our Favourite Tour Destinations in Scotland
Scotland offers plenty to explore, from beautiful coastal towns and historic cities to peaceful countryside and spectacular Highland scenery.
Over the past year, we’ve had the pleasure of taking our private tour guests to some fantastic destinations across the country. Every tour is different, with guests choosing places based on their interests, whether that’s golf, whisky, shopping, scenery, history, or simply enjoying a day out and seeing more of Scotland.
Here are some of our favourite tour stops from this year.
Oban
Known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, Oban is a fantastic destination for taking in Scotland’s west coast.
With its waterfront setting, harbour views and surrounding scenery, it’s easy to see why Oban is a popular stop on Scottish tours. The town is also known for its seafood, with plenty of places to enjoy a meal while taking in the coastal atmosphere.
Oban can also make a great base for exploring more of the surrounding area, with scenic routes and other destinations within easy reach.
St Andrews
For golf lovers, St Andrews needs little introduction. Known around the world as the ‘Home of Golf’, the town attracts visitors from across the globe.
But there’s much more to St Andrews than golf. The historic town is home to beautiful coastal scenery, historic buildings and the remains of St Andrews Cathedral and Castle.
Whether you’re visiting for the golf, exploring the history or simply enjoying a walk along the coast, St Andrews makes a great addition to a private tour of Scotland.
North Berwick
Just a short journey from Edinburgh, North Berwick offers a completely different experience.
This picturesque coastal town is a great choice for a relaxed day out, with seaside views, independent shops, cafés and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
For those interested in golf, North Berwick is also home to some fantastic courses, making it another popular destination for golf-focused tours.
Its location also makes it easy to combine with other stops around East Lothian or Edinburgh.
House of Bruar
For something a little different, House of Bruar is a popular stop for visitors exploring Perthshire and the Highlands.
Located just outside Pitlochry, it offers a mix of shopping, food and Scottish-inspired products, making it an easy place to spend a few hours.
It can also be combined with other nearby destinations, making it a useful stop when creating a full-day itinerary around Perthshire.
Gleneagles
Gleneagles is another favourite, particularly for guests interested in golf and luxury experiences.
Set within beautiful Perthshire countryside, Gleneagles is home to world-renowned golf courses and a luxury hotel, making it a memorable destination in its own right.
For visitors looking to experience some of Scotland’s best-known golf destinations, Gleneagles can be included as part of a wider golf tour taking in places such as St Andrews and other courses around the country.
Pitlochry
Pitlochry is a firm favourite for exploring Perthshire
The charming town is surrounded by beautiful scenery and is ideally placed for exploring some of central Scotland. It’s a great place to stop for lunch, explore the local shops or simply take in the views.
Pitlochry can also be combined with other attractions in the area, including House of Bruar and the surrounding Highland scenery.
During the autumn months, it’s also a popular destination for visitors heading to the Enchanted Forest, making it an ideal option for an evening trip.
Loch Ness and the Highlands
No list of favourite Scottish tour destinations would be complete without mentioning Loch Ness and the Highlands.
The area is home to some of Scotland’s most recognisable landscapes, with dramatic mountains, lochs and winding roads creating spectacular scenery throughout the journey.
A trip to Loch Ness can be about much more than searching for Nessie. Guests can take their time enjoying the scenery, stopping at viewpoints and exploring the surrounding Highland towns and attractions.
For visitors coming to Scotland for the first time, the Highlands are often high on the list of places they want to experience.
Your Tour, Your Way
One of the things we enjoy most about private tours is that no two days have to be the same.
Some guests may want to spend the day exploring Scotland’s famous golf courses, while others might prefer a mixture of scenery, historic towns, shopping and local food.
A private tour also gives you the flexibility to create an itinerary around the places you want to visit. We can offer guidance and recommendations based on what you’d like to see, or help plan a bespoke itinerary around your interests.
Whether you’re visiting Scotland for the first time or returning to discover somewhere new, travelling with a private chauffeur allows you to enjoy the journey without having to worry about driving, navigating or keeping to a rigid schedule.
Where Will You Explore Next?
From the coast of Oban and North Berwick to the historic streets of St Andrews and the dramatic scenery of Loch Ness, Scotland has plenty to discover.
These are just some of the destinations we’ve enjoyed visiting with our guests this year - and there are plenty more waiting to be explored.
